ABOUT AIRWALLEX
Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.
We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles https://www.airwallex.com/en-us/operating-principles to see it in full.
How you'll make impact
Build and mature Airwallex’s regulatory compliance programme in Brazil, turning local regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, controls and processes that can scale with the business.
- Own regulatory engagement and compliance execution across Brazil, including coordinating with the contractor who holds the statutory director role, responding to requests from the Central Bank of Brazil, preparing regulatory applications and reports, and keeping regulatory obligations on track against important deadlines.
- - Partner with Product, Legal, Risk, Controls, Operations and global stakeholders, including colleagues in Singapore, to assess products and processes, provide clear compliance advice, and help embed effective change-management tools and controls.
- - Bring structure, prioritization and reliable execution to a maturing Brazil function, providing regular updates and turning complex regulatory requirements into clear actions that help Airwallex grow safely.
- The role is hybrid, based in São Paulo.
- What we're looking for Essentials - 8+ years' experience in regulatory compliance within a bank, payments institution or other regulated financial services business.
- - Strong knowledge of Brazilian financial services and payments regulations, including experience working with the Central Bank of Brazil.
- - Experience building or managing compliance programmes, including policies, procedures, reporting and controls.
- - Comfortable working cross-functionally with Product and other teams to assess regulatory requirements and ensure compliant products and processes.
- - Strong understanding of licensing, regulatory reporting, compliance monitoring and regulatory change management, with the ability to turn requirements into practical actions.
- - Fluent in Portuguese and English, with a hands-on approach and the right to work in Brazil.
- - A hands-on, execution-focused approach, with a track record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple regulatory priorities.
- - The right to work in Brazil.
Preferred
- - Experience engaging directly with the Central Bank of Brazil or supporting regulatory examinations, applications or information requests.
- - Experience in a Brazilian bank, payment institution or fintech that has gone through a licensing or regulatory authorisation process.
- - Experience working across borders with distributed teams and stakeholders in multiple time zones.
- - Experience building compliance programmes or operating models in a growing or still-maturing business.
- - Proficiency in Spanish.
You'll thrive here if
- - You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.
- - You're energized by change. Your grow in steps, not a straight line, and priorities shift as you learn.
- - You're comfortable with ambiguity. Give you a problem, not a prescription, and you'll run with it.
- - You communicate clearly and directly across cultures, and you're thoughtful about how context shifts meaning across borders.
- - You over-communicate by design. You'd rather flag something early than let it become a surprise.
